2005 has been the breakthrough for many D&B producers all over the world especially for German producers …. But there are two producers based in Cologne that have played this D&B game for about nearly 10 years by now, always producing on a very tight basis – they have never cared about the trends , always staying loyal to their unique style of producing D&B . We are talking about Oliver Marx & Volker P. alias X-Plorer & Dee'Pulse !
X-Plorer is on the producer tip but dj's a lot too , where Dee'pulse , as a professional audiodesigner, focuses on producing & helps X-Plorer a lot with all the IT stuff !
This year was finally their breakthrough in the D&B scene – with having releases on METRO.,OBSESSION.,RENEGADE , Hard:edged & the latest signing from X-PLORER himself on WILDSTYLE , more & more people are noticing their brilliant way of producing D&B … Obviously influenced by MATRIX , ED RUSH & OPTICAL they are carrying on the futuristic funk/Roller sound ; but they are not copying the sound from these massive producers, they have developed their own sound fusing unbelievable vocals with tight badass basslines & the thunderous drops in every tune always remind that X-PLORER & DEE'PULSE have got something to do with these tunes , but the most important thing is they never forget the FUNK !!! “Our sound isn't really easy to describe”, Oliver explains, the boys go on with a big smile on their faces”We would say you can name our sound Future-Tech-Funk with love to the detail, our beatprogramming is very time-consuming & the sound is aimed to the dancefloor but never missing the musical roots !” A lot of people don't realise that these boys are the pioneers of German D&B …
X-PLORER is also one of the best D&B dj's in Germany , playing for almost 13 years by now , he can get every party on fire with he's “double-trouble” mixing skills & fusing he's own tracks with the latest tracks from the D&B scene – with his 13 years of experience he just feels how he can get the party going … You can see this feeling in the way he produces his tracks , he just knows what the crowd wants & all the ravers go crazy when they here his tracks drop !
“Back in the days in 1991 it all started with Hardcore/House, where a lot of dj's weren't feeling the four to the floor beat thing, they started to produce House-Sounds with breakbeatz & that's how I got into the whole Jungle/D&B thing” explains X-PLORER … X-PLORER & DEE'PULSE started to produce in 1995 & formed their own D&B label named SHAKE UP with a friend , MICHAEL from Groove Attack in Cologne . They also started the legendary SHAKE-UP in partys in ´95 with different crews in West Germany , these guys where really getting into business at the time ! In '97 they moved to a small studio to get things started in whole producing thing . Only one year after moving to the studio they got involved with building up the Berlin based label HARD:EDGED, and really got things rolling for themselves & the label !
X-PLORER steps in “Don't forget to mention the first & only D&B radiostation named EVOSONIC … I did a weekly D&B show with Michael starting from `97 – 2000 featuring the latest D&B & of course our own stuff !”
2001 , X-Ploer did a SHAKE UP tour due to their cd release “Shakedown 2001” in the USA & 2002 their full length album “Pleasure Principles” was dropped on Berlin based label Hard:Edged ! This album features not only dancefloor orientated tracks , it includes the beautiful vocal track “Trust” featuring Pat Benetti & downbeat tunes with live musicians !
So we are not talking about up & coming producers here ; these guys are established D&B producers with a stunning back catalogue with 20 singles & a LP/CD album … And the best tunes seem to be coming in the future !
In 2004 the boys moved to the legendary EMI-studios, where Tina Turner & Joe Cocker used to record there records back in the `80's – you can see this in their production that it was very important for them to have the surroundings of a professional studio !
X-Plorer has managed to sign “Spiral” for METRO RECORDINGS – it was always a dream for him to sign a track for METRO ; in summer 2005 X-PLORER & DEE'PULSE dropped “Silhouette/Déjà” vu & now X-PLORER has signed his second 12” for this groundbreaking label !
BLACK SUN EMPIRE signed another tune after “ Sahara ” called ”Technology” on their OBSESSIONS imprint – this is the 2 nd tune they have signed & is a massive tune !
Further on X-Plorer & Dee'Pulse have got quite a few tracks finished only waiting to get signed … The next project from the boys is to start a brand new label featuring tracks from producers that are on the same tip as they are & themselves too ! So watch out for forthcoming releases & their new label dropping in 2006 – BIG THINGS will be coming from these outstanding producers !!!
